Biographies
Michael Brook
Currently, Executive Manager for Film Auckland. He has directed music videos, commercials and documentaries; with several years experience in post production, animation and special effects. Michael was partners with Kim Fogelberg in Pencil Shavings, a digital animation and special effects company. He is also highly experienced in staging film and video events through his past employment at the Moving Image Centre and the New Zealand Film Archive.
Fiona Milburn
A director and producer whose work includes film, television, and stage in New Zealand and internationally. Fiona has also worked extensively in video games, for example at Acclaim Entertainment in New York. She has lived in London, New York and Los Angeles and is now based in New Zealand where she has her own production company, WireFrame Ltd, which specializes in visual effects and technology based content for emerging platforms. Fiona is the Immediate Past Chair of Women In Film and Television International (WIFTI).
Kim Fogelberg
Began her career within the graphics department of TVNZ and has built up a large body of work, mainly in the post production of television commercials, on many different platforms. She has been driving Discreet Logic products for many years and freelances throughout Australasia as a compositor. Kim collaborated with Sean Kerr for Interdigitate 1998.
Mark Schafer
Mark is an internationally recognized visual effects artist and pioneer in Motion Capture for feature films. He was head of R&D at Acclaim Entertainment, New York, where he designed and managed the motion capture facility acknowledged as the best in the industry. Before Acclaim, Mark worked internationally in computer graphics software development, writing such things as the first commercially available single skinned skeletal character animation system. Mark has also worked in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and USA, creating visual effects for broadcast and film. Mark is a practicing neon and glass artist. He has exhibited at the Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles and in New Zealand at galleries such as Objectspace.
Simon Fisher Turner
Last year Sft wrote the music for the acclaimed film The Great White Silence, about Captain Scott, which was restored by the British Film Institute. His most recent album was entitled SOUNDESCAPES, which he made with Espen J Jorgensen, from Oslo. This was released again on Mute Records. This year Sft has worked in Kyoto with performance group dumbtype and has just finished music for the American artist Alyson Shotz. This is their third collaboration. For the last two years Simon has continued to play concerts live around the world and his latest will be on July 28th in London, where the film of The Great White Silence will be screened on the walls of the Science Museum in Exhibition Road as part of the London Olympic entertainments. Simon was last week commissioned to write the score for The Epic of Everest which was shot in 1924 by Sir John Noel, and is a silent film about the failed ascent on Everest by Mallory and Irving. He recently completed music for a film about Tilda Swinton and the writer and critic John Berger, and his most recent concert was in Thailand at the Film on the Rocks festival. Three tracks from the album SOUNDESCAPES also appear on the OST to Marc Cousins new film.
